行人舞袖拂梨花

The falling flowers dancing around walkers’ sleeves

that are fanning the rain of petals from the pear trees.


彩云易散月常亏

The moon wanes more than stays full and bright;

The rosy clouds fade away as day enters night.

or

The clouds could be rosy but can’t stay for long;

Most nights the moon wanes, to nothing beyond.


闲愁也似月明多;

her loneliness grows like the waxing moon;

or

a loneliness only sensed by the celestial Moon.


直送凄凉到画屏;

A cold chill invades the picture on the screen;



犹将歌扇向人遮;

shy away behind her silk fan with a poem on it;

or

the singer shies away behind her silk fan;


The borneol smokes no more, just cold ashes in the pot;


水晶山枕象牙床

A curved pillow made of crystal stone

on a cold bed crafted in ivory material;


罗衣消尽恁时香

When the sweet scent on her dress fades away,


几多深恨断人肠

heart twisted

or

broken by too much regrets in life;


条脱闲揎系五丝

A five-colour string binding the left arm;


教我甚情怀

Filled me with such delight;
